SHORT RESPONSE:

QUESTION:

You are stranded on a deserted island! It's the perfect vacation getaway, complete with perfect shorelines, shady trees, and nothing anymore harmful than a few fruits. In time, you find out that you have everything you could ever dream for on the island. Riches, abundant food, beautiful sunshine, no worries, and even a mega mansion you build effortlessly in the tree tops.
There's nothing that could ruin your happiness. You are living the good life, and all but one of your questions have been left unanswered.
There is a reason you're stuck on this island. Maybe a reason you're too stupid to understand, or maybe a reason you worked hard to get rid of. Whatever the case, you don't know why you are here. Only that you're here. Now, think of everything you've ever loved away from the island. plants, the sun, strawberries, and friends. Don't merely think of them so that you detatch their value from them. Think about them as if they were put up here in front of you, about to spoil or die if you didn't tell them just how much you loved them in this moment. I remind you that you have everything you can dream of is on this island. I remind you that the things you love are real. They're not dreams, and so they are not here on the island with you.
The things you love will disappear forever. In three minutes, the island will be covered in fog thick enough for your hand to turn grey in front of your face. Once this fog rolls out, the island will be clear once again, and everything you could ever dream of will remain. However, anything beyond the island will not. Even if you found a way to escape the world of your island, breaking the barriers of reality, managing to somehow travel beyond the island, you will instead find you are mistaken-- there will be nothing but the ocean and the island. If you don't leave the island before the fog completely engulfs your hand in grey, this will be the rest of your life.
I remind you of the reason you're here. This is not an easy reason to digest. Think of your most painful experience, and think of how I couldn't even begin to describe something far more painful. This is what knowing this reason will feel like. Think about it some more: Why is this island the best thing you've ever had? Why is life so much better here? Why would you ever want to leave, when whatever put you here in the first place seems to hold this much power over you, and wants you this badly put away? Shut up? Safe? Like a hungry murderer, someone who tested life so many times that they now taste the excitement of iron on their tongue, endlessly chasing comfortable, red-faced, slippery floors, wanting to feel more and more like nothing will ever change-- because that's all they know-- the safety of a wonderfully split body? What could you have done to be put away like this? A place full of wonders and devoid of anything uncomfortable surely can't go to the best man. Think about it even more, and notice how people who try really hard to be good don't anywhere near get the level of rewards that bad people do. They even made up a lie, something you can remember well, off of the island, that follows: 'Goodness is its own reward'.
What could this reason be? And now I ask you--
If you could leave the island right now, learn of the reason, return to the real world, free of consequence, with the REAL sun, REAL plants, REAL strawberries, and aaaalll your REAL friends waiting for you, would you? If you could feel less like a distraction and more like someone who could forever be true, would you leave the island? Or would you be just fine away from a world that didn't even want you at all, in a land where the untouchable touch of dreams lulls around you until standing, sitting, and sleeping feel all the same, surrounded by ocean forever?
Is it selfish to stay in the island and absorb its bounty? Is it selfish to leave and learn of why you were deserted, then crawl back to life, filling their lives with what they tried to put away-- you?
Think about it some more, really think hard, get even into what you'd never want to discuss, in the cozy couch of your own mind and thoughts, and feel safe here. It's okay to give your honest answer. Frankly, that's all I want to hear.
Do you leave the island?

ANSWER:

There's NO WAY I would EVER stay!
